Historical Evolution
■ In 1946, to lay the foundation for local self-government, the government announced the Provisional Regulations for the Organization of County Councils, stipulating that the people’s representatives be elected from among the people, and the first Taipei County Council was elected.
■ In 1950, Taiwan Province officially implemented local autonomy for the counties and cities. The first Taipei County Councilors were elected, and these 60 City Councilors formed the first Taipei County Council.
■ In 1952, the second Taipei County Council was elected. In 2005, the 16th Taipei County Council was elected. Over more than half a century and 16 elections, more than 1,000 City Councilors have been elected by the people, and more than 20,000 budgets and proposals have been discussed and voted on.
